Duration 30–40 minutes
Grouping Small groups (3–4)
Strategy Collaboration

Materials

  • Student drafts
  • Post-it notes (multiple colours)
  • Feedback prompts

Teacher Instructions

  1. Arrange students into groups of 3–4.
  2. Each student brings their draft to the group.
  3. Assign different coloured Post-its for different types of feedback (e.g., yellow = strengths, pink = questions, blue = suggestions).
  4. Students read each group member's work and place Post-it notes with feedback directly on the text.
  5. After all feedback is placed, each student reads through the feedback they received and discusses it with the group.
  6. Students plan their revisions based on the feedback.

Teaching Tips

  • Set clear expectations for constructive feedback before starting.
  • Model good feedback vs unhelpful feedback (e.g., "Great!" vs "The opening paragraph hooks me because...").
  • Post-its make feedback feel less permanent and less threatening than writing directly on someone's work.
