Materials
- Student drafts
- Conversation protocol cards
Teacher Instructions
- Pair students up. One student is the "Writer" and the other is the "Coach".
- The Writer reads their piece aloud (or a section of it).
- The Coach listens and then responds using the conversation protocol: "I noticed...", "I wondered...", "What if you tried..."
- Students switch roles and repeat.
- Both students note down the key feedback they received and plan their next steps.
Teaching Tips
- The conversation protocol prevents vague feedback like "it's good".
- Having students read aloud helps them hear issues in their own writing.
- This activity builds both writing and listening skills.
