Teacher Instructions
- Consider the topic of your literary journal and how you might structure it.
- Gather a selection of essays or other works that fit within the scope. Include various ability levels to show the full range.
- Organise the works into a logical order (e.g., by study design outcome, by text, by theme).
- Consider writing a foreword for each section that contextualises the essays.
- Decide whether to edit/proofread or leave essays in their original form to show authentic student voice.
- Choose distribution method: printed copies or compiled into a single PDF for digital access.
Teaching Tips
- This works especially well for senior students – their essays become mentor texts for future classes.
- Consider including visual and multimodal elements.
- Could include marking rubrics so future students can assess the works critically.
Student Handout
As a class, we’re compiling a literary journal of essays. This will showcase your writing and help future students.
