Materials

  • Text with deliberate errors embedded
  • Correction key/guide

Teacher Instructions

  1. Prepare a text with deliberate errors at the word level: spelling, punctuation, word choice, tense consistency, etc.
  2. Provide students with the text and ask them to find and correct all errors.
  3. Students work individually to identify errors, marking and correcting each one.
  4. Review the corrections as a class, discussing why each error is incorrect and what the correct form is.
  5. Students then apply the same error-hunting process to their own writing.

Teaching Tips

  • Start with obvious errors and increase difficulty over time.
  • Can be adapted for other subjects – focus on sentence construction and key vocabulary in History, Science, etc.
  • Make it competitive: who can find the most errors?
