Teacher Instructions
- Working in small groups, students write a guide to their hometown (or school, sporting club, or any shared familiar space), intended to persuade an audience of peers from another region to visit.
- Students brainstorm and research the most important and interesting aspects of their location.
- In groups, they discuss and decide the most attractive aspects. Each group member is assigned one aspect to write about.
- For each aspect, students write a short paragraph with appropriate language choices for their intended audience.
- Groups organise and sequence their paragraphs so they appeal to the intended audience.
- Students write up their paragraphs into a cohesive document and discuss their choices with the class.
Teaching Tips
- Consider landmarks, activities, areas of cultural and historical significance.
- Students should think from the perspective of a visitor to their town.
- This activity works well with any shared space – school, sporting club, community centre.
